Members of Caring Together who have watched the compassion, the skill & experience of those who worked to save the dying whale in the River Thames, UK, last week have taken heart to note the reserves of these qualities that are never far from the surface of people’s minds!

The services of our Association are offered to patients and their carers in the Valencian Community when they are “On the Beach”, as it were, with the patient near the end of life.

We frequently “top up” services which may already be being provided by others in order to add as much quality as possible to the days that remain. This helps partners to make the most of whatever time they have left together.

Mostly our contracted nurses and auxiliaries work in patients’ homes. They may accompany when hospital visits are necessary to provide assistance and re-assurance . We can lend special beds and mattresses to reduce problems with bed sores (which can be agonising, and much easier to get than to get rid of) We can lend special electric hoists so that a frail carer is able to move a much heavier and helpless patient from point to point in safety. And if despite all such assistance the carer is utterly ill with overwork and worry, we are often able to provide some respite.

Caring Together is not the most glamorous of organizations. There are no “first nights” - but “last nights” when patients reach the end of the road. We are able to continue thanks to the generosity of readers’ support. Every Euro will help to make the end of life more bearable for someone !
